Presence registration construction with Checkin@Work: today IN, soon also OUT.
According to the NSSO, the extension of IN and OUT registration takes effect on 1 April 2027. It covers works on immovable property, excluding cleaning, and the supply of ready-mixed concrete at workplaces where the total value of the works is at least €500,000 excluding VAT. Check the conditions for each site.

What is changing, and why to think about it now.

Who must register today
The declaring contractor, the employer or the person concerned makes the declaration. Today, employers and contractors can also register their subcontractors and self-employed subcontractors.

Responsibility of both principal and worker
According to the NSSO, responsibility for registration in Check In and Out at Work lies both with whoever puts someone to work and with the person doing the work. Make arrangements with your subcontractors in time.

Registering in advance or remotely disappears
After the extension, everyone present registers themselves in real time, at the start and at the end of the activity. Registration by the employer, in advance or remotely, will no longer be allowed.

Effective date and background
The NSSO confirms on workinginbelgium.fgov.be (notice of 30 July 2026) that the obligation takes effect on 1 April 2027, based on the programme law of 30 May 2026 (title 6, chapter 1, art. 124 to 131). That date should give companies a fully functional application and sufficient preparation time. The extension follows the model that has applied in the cleaning sector since 2024 and aims to counter social dumping and strengthen safety on construction sites.

Which activities the extension applies to
The extension does not apply to cleaning activities: those have their own scheme, with a full IN and OUT obligation since 2024. It does apply to the delivery of ready-mixed concrete.

“Ready for 2027” does not yet say anything about day one
A system said to be ready is not necessarily a system whose declarations are demonstrably accepted by the NSSO from day one.

- What exactly is Checkinatwork, and from when does it apply to my sites?
- Checkinatwork (CIAW) is the mandatory electronic presence registration on construction sites for immovable property works, and has applied since 1 April 2014 from a total work value of € 500,000 excluding VAT. Today it only registers the arrival; from 1 April 2027, registration of departure is added.
- When does the extension to IN and OUT take effect, and what changes in practice?
- On 1 April 2027, according to the NSSO, based on the programme law of 30 May 2026. That date should give companies a fully functional application and sufficient preparation time. In practice: everyone present checks themselves in on the site in real time and checks out again at the end of the activity. Registration by the employer, in advance or remotely, is removed.
- Does the extension apply to all activities?
- It does not apply to cleaning activities, which have their own scheme, but it does apply to the delivery of ready-mixed concrete.
- From what amount must I register?
- From a total amount of € 500,000 excluding VAT for works on immovable property at the same place. The obligation then applies to the persons carrying out work on that site, including at subcontractors.
- Do I already need to register the departure today?
- No. Checkinatwork today only registers the arrival. The departure will be added with the extension.
- What about subcontractors?
- People from subcontractors working on the site concerned are also covered by the registration. We look together in a live demo at how to organise this with Checkinandoutatwork.be.
- Can I check in my people on their behalf?
- Today the report can still be made by the declaring contractor or employer. After the extension, everyone present registers themselves in real time; registering in advance or remotely is removed.
- Does the app track my employees?
- How and when the app uses location data is explained in the live demo and in our privacy statement.
- Do breaks need to be registered?
- No. In construction, the NSSO does not require breaks to be registered; the obligation covers arrival and, from 1 April 2027, departure. In cleaning, rest breaks must be registered.
- We already register with a time clock or badge — what then?
- A time clock or badge can stay. How registrations from different systems are followed up together is looked at case by case in the live demo.
- Is Checkinandoutatwork.be the official NSSO application?
- No. Checkinandoutatwork.be is a commercial software solution by Multi-Track, a brand of MBSS NV. The official NSSO online service is a separate, free government service on socialsecurity.be. We claim no recognition or certification by the NSSO.
- When is the free NSSO application enough?
- The NSSO service lets your people register themselves and lets you consult their registrations. With few employees, few work locations and no subcontractors, that can be enough. Commercial software is mainly worthwhile when you have many people, sites or subcontractors; a live demo shows whether that is your case.
