Registering subcontractors on site: who does what?

A construction site rarely has only your own employees. The registration obligation applies to everyone who carries out work there.

Last updated on 14 October 2026.

Who does the registration apply to?

  • Employees, self-employed workers, subcontractors and temporary workers carrying out work on site.
  • On sites from € 500,000 excl. VAT.
  • Delivery of ready-mixed concrete is also covered.

Who is responsible?

The person present on site registers themselves. According to the NSSO, responsibility for registration lies both with whoever puts someone to work and with the person doing the work.

Have your social secretariat or a lawyer check exactly which liability applies within the contracting chain.

Frequently asked questions

Does my subcontractor have to use the same app?
No. Each subcontractor chooses a valid method: the official NSSO online service or external software that registers through the NSSO REST web service. Legal responsibility stays with the parties concerned.
Am I responsible for my subcontractors as main contractor?
According to the NSSO, responsibility lies both with whoever puts someone to work and with whoever does the work. Have the exact liability in your chain checked legally and make clear agreements with your subcontractors.
Do temporary workers register too?
Yes. Everyone who carries out work on site registers their presence.

See check-in and check-out live in a demo.

In a short session we walk through the three steps of the process: checking in and out with one tap in the app, the declaration within the deadline and the follow-up until the response. We then show the portal for managers: planning, registrations per team, reports and audit trail. For cleaning, construction or both — you choose where we put the emphasis.
